Las chinches de la cama son verdaderos insectos (Orden: Hemiptera), pertenecientes a la familia Cimicidae. Al igual que los dem\u00e1s miembros de esta familia, se alimentan exclusivamente de sangre y necesitan una comida de uno de los diversos hu\u00e9spedes vertebrados para desarrollarse entre los instares (etapas de la vida) y reproducirse.<\/p>\n

Tiempo de desarrollo<\/strong><\/p>\n

El tiempo de desarrollo est\u00e1 muy influenciado por la temperatura. Por debajo de los 13 \u00b0C, todo el desarrollo cesa, las hembras dejan de poner y los huevos que han puesto no eclosionan. Por encima de 36\u00baC, los da\u00f1os en los simbiontes bacterianos, que ayudan a la s\u00edntesis de micronutrientes, provocan una reducci\u00f3n de la fecundidad y la supervivencia. Entre estos dos extremos, el tiempo de desarrollo disminuye con el aumento de la temperatura (v\u00e9ase m\u00e1s adelante).<\/p>\n

Tasa de reproducci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Las chinches hembras necesitan aparearse al menos una vez cada 5-6 semanas para mantener su plena fertilidad, aunque se cree que las tasas de apareamiento natural son muy superiores.<\/p>\n

El n\u00famero de huevos que una hembra pone a la semana est\u00e1 muy influenciado por la temperatura y la variaci\u00f3n individual. En una habitaci\u00f3n c\u00e1lida, se puede esperar que una sola hembra ponga entre 15 y 25 huevos a la semana, y hasta 500 a lo largo de su vida, siempre que tenga acceso continuo a la comida y se aparee regularmente.<\/p>\n
