Whilst serving in the Royal Air Force Police I qualified as a military dog handler.  As my career progressed and with promotions, I qualified and carried out various other roles including, Special Investigations undertaking several Civilian Police training courses, Counter Intelligence, Instructor Duties and Air Transport Security.  All these roles provided me the opportunity to travel the world, to some nice and not so nice places!  However, I still managed to be actively involved in dog training and had overall responsibility for dog sections.

On leaving the military I have been trained and carried out operational tasks in Canine Explosive and Drug Detection, where I have successfully worked at high profile events which have included the London Olympics and Royal Ascot.  I have obtained my teaching qualification (PTLLS) and been heavily involved in the initial and continuation training of both dogs and handlers alike in a variety of disciplines.

I trained as a Canine Bed Bug Detection Handler nearly 10 years ago and as well as training dogs and handlers, I have been fully operational carrying out searches in a variety of locations throughout the UK, including hotels, hostels, care homes, children’s adventure centres, social housing, private residences and detention centres. I have recently become an Assessor for the Bed Bug Foundation (BBF) and just started in the new role as the BBF Representative for the UK.  Both positions I look forward to carrying out.

I enjoy working with dogs, learning new skills and developing handlers.  I have increased my knowledge further by recently undertaking and was awarded a Foundation Degree in Science, Canine Studies (with distinction).

I am involved with the BBF as I believe it is one organisation that is determined and through independent assessments, can ensure that its dog teams are reputable and of a high standard.  However, this can only be carried out with the correct initial and continuous training.
